CEREC - Single Visit Restoration
Have you been delaying your dental care because of the number of visits required or the amount of time it takes to complete the treatment? We at Leichhardt Dental Centre understand that it’s all about the time, so you don’t need multiple appointments or temporary restorations with us. With our n-house CEREC one-visit system, we can make crowns, veneers, inlays and onlays in a single sitting.
CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Aesthetic Ceramics or CERamic REConstruction. The CEREC machine comprises of a 3D scanner, a milling machine and a furnace. This advancement in dentistry has revolutionised the way we restore teeth, as it enables us to use CAD/CAM technology to create more efficient impressions of your teeth and complete the permanent metal-free restoration in just one visit.
Traditionally, restorations like crowns and veneers would take two or more visits. The tooth would be restored and shaped, a dental impression would be taken during the first visit, and you’d be sent back home with a temporary restoration. The impression would then be used to prepare a plaster model, using which a laboratory would fabricate your restoration.
After about a week or so, you would be called in for the fitting of the final crown or veneer. If additional adjustments were to be made, the number of appointments could increase. But CEREC has allowed us to offer our patients single-visit restorations making your visit to us efficient, convenient, and safe.
The CEREC Process
After our team has prepared the tooth to receive a restoration like a crown or a veneer, they create a 3D image of the tooth with a CEREC scanner. The scanner replaces the uncomfortable impression materials and trays and the 3D image replaces the traditional plaster model.
The CEREC software takes the 3D image and converts it into a 3D virtual model on the computer screen. Our team designs the restoration using the CEREC 3D program using their dental expertise. Within a few minutes, the restoration design data is wirelessly sent to a separate CEREC milling machine, creating your restoration within 20 minutes from a ceramic block. Next, the ceramic restoration is fired in a furnace to reach its final strength, beauty and shine and is then bonded to your tooth.
Advantages of CEREC Restorations
Dental Implants offer many benefits including:
Time
CEREC restorations are made in a day, saving you another trip to the dentist.
Convenience
There is no need for a temporary restoration, eliminating possible sensitivity, loosening and the need for anaesthesia again.
Aesthetic
The strong tooth-coloured metal-free ceramic materials of CEREC restore your teeth to their natural strength and function, blending in seamlessly with the neighbouring teeth.
Affordable
Despite the advanced technology, the CEREC system allows for an end product for the patient at a comparable cost.
Comfort
CEREC does away with the need to take traditional impressions meaning no impression tray and gooey impression material for you to gag on.
Strength
Milled ceramic is stronger than traditional porcelain or porcelain with metal crowns, ensuring longer-lasting robust restorations.
Conservative
Use of the CEREC digital technology means restorations retain more healthy tooth structure and there is no room for human error in the manufacturing process ensuring a superior fit.
